When you choose a midwife, you are choosing a provider who believes that individualized, compassionate care is the key to a healthy pregnancy and birth. The relationships I have with my clients are built on mutual trust and respect, and special care is taken to ensure that we have the opportunity to develop this bond during pregnancy. In this way, midwifery care is quite different than the typical obstetrical model. Below you will find a brief overview of the services I provide to my clients throughout their pregnancy, birth and postpartum time.
Comprehensive Prenatal, Labor, and Postpartum Care
Midwifery care for pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum is offered as a complete package on a sliding scale based on yearly income. See the chart below.
The Total Fee includes all services outlined below excluding labs, ultrasounds, and birth supplies. Any consultations with other providers that may become necessary during the course of the pregnancy are not covered.
A non-refundable deposit of 20% of the Total Fee is due at our initial visit. The remaining balance must be paid by the beginning of your 36th week of pregnancy, and can be paid by monthly payments. Payments may be made by cash, check, or credit card, including HSA accounts. At this time, Full Moon Midwifery does not accept insurance.
I am currently accepting clients in both Tucson and Phoenix, Arizona and surrounding areas through the end of 2017. Clients living outside the Phoenix Metro Area will be required to pay an additional travel fee of 10% of their total fee (based on the sliding scale model).
Your prenatal care will begin with a two hour initial visit during which we will discuss your medical and pregnancy history, draw necessary labs, review your diet and activity level, discuss your wishes for your pregnancy and labor, and review my informed consents and scope of practice guidelines.
All prenatal visits take place in the comfort of your home, and are 45 minutes to one hour long, allowing ample time us to get to know each other. At each visit, I will assess your general health and the well being of your baby, along with your emotional health, feelings about the pregnancy, and address any questions or concerns you have. If you have a partner, they are encouraged to attend our visits, and children are always welcome. Prenatal visits are scheduled as follows:
- Monthly visits from the time we establish care until 28 weeks of pregnancy
- Biweekly visits from 28 to 36 weeks of pregnancy
- Weekly visits from 36 weeks until the birth of your baby
During your 36-week visit, we will review the supplies you have gathered to make sure you have everything you need for the birth. I encourage you to have your whole birth team present at this visit, including your partner, doula, or other support people.
Labor, Birth and Immediate Postpartum
During your labor, I will continually assess the well being of you and your baby, monitor your labor progress, and provide physical and emotional support. I will always have another licensed midwife or trained midwifery assistant with me during your labor. Once your baby is born, I will remain with you until you and your baby are stable and have established breastfeeding, a minimum of two hours.
During your first week postpartum, I will visit you in your home on day one, day three, and day five. During these visits, I will assess your physical and emotional health, assist with breastfeeding, examine and weigh your baby, and discuss any questions or concerns you might have. We will schedule a three week postpartum visit if necessary, and our final visit will take place at six weeks.
At any time during your pregnancy and postpartum period I am directly available to you by phone, text, or email. I respectfully ask that non-emergent questions be saved for regular business hours. However, if you are concerned about something, I want to know about it! Your well being and safety is my utmost priority.
